HAPPY 2ND LITRATONG PINOY ANNIVERSARY

EVERYONE!

It seems like it was only yesterday when we  had our first weekly challenge, remember this? Look at us now, on our 2nd year anniversary!

Please tell us something about yourself:

Having been a local of Paranaque for the longest time, this is where I met my future wife, Judith and was blessed with a bright and adorable son, Jeremy. I finished my college degree in Bachelor of Computer Engineering at Don Bosco. Travelling is one of my passions and photography was an avenue to this.

When did you first realize that photography was for you? Was it love at first shot?

I am a fan of visual arts, “mapa” painting, drawing or photo. I found a manual camera from papa’s old stock and gave it a try. I really had no idea about cameras before. Even how to load a film. My first try to expose a film was really off.  And I said to myself I like to learn this. When I tried to show my first roll to my fellow photographers, they laughed at it. Well, that’s the start of my new challenge. Sometimes we all just need a good kick in the butt.

Have you had any formal training?

I took workshops from FPPF basic and advance – under Vic Sison, Ed Santiago, Deri Ibarra. Lighting seminar of Allan Raso and Jay Alonzo. But I did not stop there I went on attending other short seminars from PhotoworldManila and from other pro photographers. I listen well when I have a chance to chat with professional photographers and stock on pile of books on photography.  Up until now, I dream of enrolling myself in a bigger school. On the contrary, I now found myself teaching basic class.

What kind of photography do you do?  Do you always enjoy it?

I usually do photo events – corporate, wedding, debuts. But I cater more on corporate accounts.  It’s the challenge and passion that keep me going.

I learn from every project I accomplish and these have taught me well.

What are the pros and cons of being a photographer in the Philippines?

There are few who appreciate photography in the Philippines probably because there are more important priorities that people seek. But we can see the transition nowadays, it’s much more improved compared to the film days. People now realize that photography is important as documenting a particular event.

Do you mind sharing with us your equipments?

I started from Nikon and never tried other brands.

I have Nikon F80, Nikon D70s, Nikon D200, Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, Nikon 12-24mm, Nikon 80-200mm f2.8, Nikon 18-200mm VR, Nikon 60mm f2.8 macro,

Do you have any favorite daily lens to use?

I’m fond of using prime lens. I used to have 24mm f2.8 and 50mm. Had to let them go, to get the 24-70mm f2.8 lens.

For portraits, I go for 80-200mm because it really isolates my subject from the busy background. I use this particularly in fiestas. Though it’s heavy especially when carrying it around for about 6 hours.

If you will choose from your photographs, what would be the top 3 and why?

The girl from the fiesta at Dipolog. I love the light and I captured her smile without any setup poses.

On the other hand, this 2nd photo was a setup. This is the photo of my son with the our pet “Sandy”, entry for a photo contest.  I enjoy working with my family. Its like a bonding moment for us at the same time I enjoy what we are doing. I was glad it won but that was just the icing on the cake.

And lastly, I shot the Laguna de Bay and captured the morning sun rays. This won a prize. I was still using 35mm film format here. I woke up very early and went to the location. I hunted the location and arranged the permit for that specific idea.

Could you please tell us something about Exposure Camera Club which you founded?

We founded the club after our basic class from FPPF at Intramuros circa 2000. The original name of our club was Hubad. Meaning Hubad sa kaalaman. “Started from nothing.”  We are 7 seven in the group. We love to travel and shoot places around the Philippines. We had 2 major exhibits. Now we have our own projects that we can say generate some income to sustain our passion and learning through experience. And still learning . . .

We changed the name to Exposure, medyo iba kasi ang dating at mahirap maka-recruit ng members eh. They thought that it was something like an obscene club hahaha. We want to limit our membership to achieve the manageable number of members.

If you weren’t a photographer, what do you think you’ll doing instead?
Maybe I’ll be still in visual arts. I have a digital printing business which I also enjoy doing.

Any words of wisdom you can share with Litratong Pinoy members?

Photography is an art, express yourself through that medium. Enjoy & love what you are doing. That’s how to keep the fire burning.

And use your talent in such a way to inspire others to change or move on to a better state. -end

Happy 2nd Anniversary Litratong Pinoy and congrats to my brother Carlo for all the very touchy LP photos as always.

I currently residing abroad and to me “Litratong Pinoy” always keeping me close to home no matter what the different climate and/or culture that I am going thru every day of my life.

I agree, we have to be ready to capture the moment that’s why I bought a nice handy built-in camera/video on my cellphone (hehehe) and take a pic in a snap. We can leave everything behind but not our memories… I guess pictures are part of our life just like internet. (LOL)
