can any umbrella will do? i saw my friends using round reflectors. does it have the same role as the umbrella?

Round reflector has the same role as the umbrella reflector. It really depends on your lighting needs and how you use them.
Will any umbrella do? did you mean as reflector? Yes. You can even make one yourself, there are DIY guides online.
